Machair - unknown jewel of NW Europe

Machair

'Machair' is one of the rarest habitats in Europe. This distinctive coastal grassland is found only in north-west Scotland and western Ireland, where, in addition to its striking botanical interest, it serves as the most important breeding habitat for many rare bird species.
